A Note To Developers

So the Apple AppStore just reached the 25,000 app mark. However some developers are noticing their applications are disappearing. The AppStore was released to the public on June 1st, 2008, however many developers signed up in March. Apple claims to give a renew option withing 90 days before the expiration date of the contract, but nothing has been provided to developers yet. For some the expiration date on their contracts could expire within a couple days or weeks.

Renewing the app is not the only problems developers are noticing. Some developers stated that their contract application (which would have been deposited months ago) has not been approved yet. This is not happening with just paid apps. The developers who are creating free apps, which require much less documentation also are waiting to get their contracts approved.

Apple apparently was not ready for this situation. Erica Sadun (made famous for her apps on the 3rd party scene as well as flashlight and others in the AppStore) called ADC support. She was asked to wait for her renewal option because Apple is putting in a new system in which was not planned at the initial AppStore release. The representative also stated that there have been numerous calls about these issues. The possitive note that was left by the representative was that  the previously approved applications won’t be removed from the AppStore, even after the contract expires.

I guess Apple wasn’t planning for such a huge success when they release the AppStore. If you are one of the developers (or know of one) who are facing these problems then please comment or talk about it in the forums.
